Who we are

Hadrian's Wall Directory (hadrianswalldirectory.com) is run by Polymath Digital Group, Northumberland. For the purposes of data protection law, Polymath Digital Group is the "data controller" — the organisation responsible for the personal data described on this page.

What we collect

When you email us. The "Claim this listing", "Send a message" and "Report incorrect info" links on this site open an email addressed to us, pre-filled with a subject line so we know which business it's about. Whatever you then send — normally your name, your email address and your message — comes straight to our inbox. We don't see or store anything until you actually send that email.

Business listings. The directory itself is made up of business contact details — name, address, phone number, opening hours, website and similar. Much of this is put together from publicly available sources (a business's own website, Companies House, Google Maps and the like) rather than supplied to us directly, until a business claims its listing and starts keeping it up to date itself.

Seasons on the Wall. Newsletter sign-ups are handled entirely by Substack, not by us — we never see or store your email address for this. Substack collects it directly and manages consent, sending and unsubscribing under their own privacy policy at substack.com/privacy.

Payment for featured listings. If a business pays to be featured, that payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store card details — Stripe processes the payment and simply confirms to us that it succeeded.

What we use it for — and what we don’t

We use the information above to reply to enquiries, to add, correct or remove listings, and to take payment for featured listings. That's it — we don't sell personal data, and we don't share it with anyone else for their own marketing purposes.

The only other organisations that ever see any of this are Stripe (payment) and Substack (newsletter sign-ups) — each under their own privacy policy.

Our lawful basis for using it

Legitimate interest — publishing publicly available business information in a local directory, so people can find local businesses. If you'd rather your business (or a business you run) wasn't listed, see "If you run a business" below.

Contract — if a business pays for a featured listing, we process what's needed (via Stripe) to deliver that.

Consent — for any marketing email, such as a newsletter, we only send it if you've actively opted in, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

If you run a business listed here

Claiming your listing is free, and lets you correct or add to what's shown. If you'd rather not be listed at all, email listings@tynevalleydirectory.co.uk with the business name and we'll remove it — there's no charge and no hoops to jump through.

Your rights

You can ask us, at any time and free of charge, to: tell you what personal data we hold about you; correct anything that's wrong; or delete it entirely. Email listings@tynevalleydirectory.co.uk and we'll deal with it promptly.

If you're not happy with how we've handled your data, you can also complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office, at ico.org.uk.

How long we keep it

Enquiry emails are kept only as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry. Listing information is kept for as long as the business appears in the directory (or until removal is requested, as above).
